5 Years on From the Completion of Sequencing the Human Genome
On the publication of the first draft sequence of the human genome in February 2001 by Celera and the Human Genome Project public consortium, it was considered that novel disease cures and personalised medicine were "just around the corner". We examine the scientific achievements resultant from the sequencing of the human genome, the current roadblocks to progress, and what opportunities next generation technologies may present in overcoming some of these difficulties.
