Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA)

The Human Genetics Society of Australasia provides a forum for those dedicated to the study, investigation and practice of human genetics with the following objectives:

  • High ethical standards among those working in Human Genetics.
  • Communication between those working in Human Genetics.
  • Training and professional recognition for those involved in Human Genetics.
  • Professional and lay education about Human Genetics.
  • Promotion of public awareness of Human Genetics.
  • Consideration and comment upon matters relevant to Human Genetics or the interests of the Society.
  • Representation of the interests of Human Genetics and those working in the field, and of the Society and its members, in public, professional, governmental and other forums.
  • Promotion and support of research in Human Genetics.
  • Performance or support of any activity which may achieve all or any of the foregoing.



  • International Federation of Human Genetics Societies (IFHGS)

    The International Federation of Human Genetics Societies was founded in 1996 to provide a transparent structure to facilitate communication throughout the international community of human geneticists. The Federation, still in its infancy, serves its constituent members, human genetics societies around the world, by providing a platform to share information about research, education and clinical services in an interactive way. The bylaws of the Federation state that: “The purpose of The International Federation of Human Genetics Societies (the Federation) is to provide a forum for organised groups dedicated to all aspects of human genetics, including research, clinical practice, and professional and lay education. The Federation will enable communication between its member groups and encourage interaction between workers in genetics fields and in related sciences and will make itself available to promote meetings and publications and other forums which support human genetics research and practice.” The Federation has two levels of membership. At present the full member multinational societies are:

  • The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG)
  • The East Asian Union of Human Genetics Societies
  • The European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG)
  • The Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA)
  • Latin American Network of Human Genetics Societies (RELAGH)
